The constant hum of the Mediterranean lapping against the rocks and the scent of salt and pines are the essence of this house in the Costa Brava.
The decorator Serge Castella turns a 70’s chalet into an energetic and comfortable home.
Using earth colours in the majority of furniture, succeeds to create a relaxed atmosphere.
The architecture of Villa BARCO is shaped as a ship with its bow pointing to the Mediterranean.
High on the cliff and over the edge, it was designed like the prow of a ship that plows through the waves.
As antiquarian and decorator Serge Castella points out:” It had been used during the summers, but nothing more. When I first walked in it was like going back to 1974; it had gotelé, soffits and ceilings with dark wooden door panels. It was completely outdated but still the interior was cheerful and had strength. “
He maintained the same style in both floors of the chalet. He installed the same parquet in public areas and bedrooms, painted the walls and ceiling white, designed the kitchen furniture with antique wood and kept some tiles and the marbles in the master bathroom.
“I wanted to respect what he had. The stones had a nice patina and were bringing to memory a certain era,” Castella says.
