The fashion industry elite were treated to an extra-special Memorial Day escape, as Nicolas Ghesquière and company invited them to sunny Rio de Janeiro, Brazil for the presentation of Louis Vuitton‘s cruise 2017 collection.
Set at the Oscar Niemeyer-designed Niterói Contemporary Art Museum, which sits on a cliff overlooking the beach and Rio‘s mountainous landscape, models descended the building’s winding, red ramp which doubled as the runway (and recalled a very chic waterslide). Guests were seated on a single row of mismatched crates in lively colors — likely a nod to the city’s urban favelas — with several of the French house’s celebrity friends, including Alicia Vikander, Jaden Smith, Zendaya, Alessandra Ambrosio and Isabeli Fontana, all in attendance.
With its vivid, rainbow colors, ruffled accents and both grand prix and fútbol-inspired prints, the collection was an artful tribute to the city’s culture.
The silhouettes skewed sporty, with asymmetrical hems, peek-a-boo cutouts and lightweight layers making up the majority of the looks.
Of course, there was some futuristic sparkle and killer accessories to admire, including a classic Vuitton trunk fashioned into a boombox, belts and handbags with racing graphics and lots of easy, flat footwear, including gladiator-style flip-flops and pointed-toe booties.
